Also known as a scrotal lift or ventral phalloplasty, this is a cosmetic urology procedure that will reduce the unnecessary skin hanging from your scrotum. Over time, your skin may have lost its elasticity because of your age or trauma to your scrotum. Skin naturally loses its tightness as we age — the scrotal skin is no different. Dr. Hakky will also provide services to assist in making your scrotum appear more symmetrical if one side is lower than the other. Candidates for scrotoplasty or a scrotal lift should come into this process with good health, realistic goals, and sensible expectations as to what cosmetic surgery can do for this area of your genitalia. To qualify for scrotoplasty, you may have:

• Too much skin around or hanging from the scrotum
• Pain or discomfort within the scrotum in certain clothing or during physical activities
• Embarrassment or severe self-consciousness about the appearance of the scrotum

Dr. Hakky will perform your scrotoplasty in an outpatient setting in about 30 minutes with a general or a local anesthetic. Once you are prepared for surgery, Dr. Hakky will make an incision (the type of incision will be agreed upon during treatment planning) in the scrotal skin and remove the excess from the scrotum. He will close the incision after adjusting the skin for the best appearance and symmetry. Scrotoplasty surgical incisions by Dr. Hakky are generally made very small and are placed in areas that can best hide the scar.

If your penis has a small amount of loose skin hanging between the base of your penis and scrotum, it can be also be removed. Excising loose skin on your penis will use the same surgical technique as a ventral phalloplasty only it requires a much smaller incision. This delicate incision will be shallow and oval-shaped. Dr. Hakky will make a dotted line starting from your scrotum and move dorsally up your penis just in the area where there is lax skin.

Upon waking from surgery (if a general anesthetic was used), we will discuss the best way to care for your treatment area when you are at home. The recovery time for a scrotoplasty is about two weeks. To manage your pain, lots of ice packs and sleep will help ease your discomfort and reduce swelling or inflammation. You will need to be cleared by Dr. Hakky before you go back to the gym (to allow your scrotum to heal).

You will need to schedule a six-week follow-up appointment with Dr. Hakky so that he can document your progress and see how your scar is healing.
